Porsche's new Hypercar, expected to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023, took the track for the first time today.
Porsche released videos on Twitter of its new Hypercar on the track today. The shakedown was held at the German marque's Weissach testing circuit with French test driver Frédéric Makowiecki at the wheel. As is typically the case for such an exercise, the car sported a "camouflage" livery so as not to reveal too much of its technical and aerodynamic features.
Frédéric Makowiecki: "To be honest, it was a very positive roll-out. We could do some laps and discovered that the car is working as expected. Now we have a good starting point to go forward." Porsche Motorsport Vice Present Thomas Laudenbach: "We are very proud of this important step in the development process of our new FIA WEC and IMSA contender for 2023. Thanks to everybody involved in Weissach and at Team Penske."
This new car carries on the presitigious legacy of previous official prototypes like the 917, 936, 956, 962 C and 919 Hybrid with which Porsche has clinched 19 wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The German manufacturer has joined forces with Team Penske to field Hypercars in both the FIA WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr have already been named factory drivers for 2022 and will therefore be involved in the development is the new racing car.
